Yesterday huge news came out as we announced that football is officially coming to SimSportsWorld.com. We are very excited about teaming up with MyFootballSim to bring this to you. As a result I want to talk a bit about what Football means to SimSportsWorld.com, and how it will impact you as a user. There are 3 major impacts I see…

1. Major Growth to SimSportsWorld

Football is easily the most popular sport when it comes to video games and sim games in the United States. Yet it also is one of the less tackled simulations. Why? Well Some comes from the complexity of making the sim, and the fact that users know football strategy better than most other sports. So you have to be good. Fantasy Football is a massive industry, and considerably larger then its basketball and baseball counter parts.

Adding football is going to allow us to tap into a large group of people who aren`t overly interested in Basketball especially at the pro level, and at an opportune time when fans block out saturdays and sundays for pig skin classics. Then there is the issue of an NFL Lockout. If the NFL does not have a season this fall, millions of fantasy football fanatics will be scrambling for their fantasy football fix. When they do, we will have the perfect solution for them.

2. Changes to Administration

As SimSportsWorld.com continues to grow, it will be paramount that our administration changes with it. While I strive to stay in close contact and reachability with the community, as we grow larger it will be necessary to force bug reports, and other such requests through the forums so we can keep record of them and keep organized. My admins and mods will also be more hands on in my place especially in dealing with issues that don`t specfically need my attention. Even if we explode I will strive to find ways to stay connected, via weekly chat sessions, this blog, or other ways I will strive my best to be as approachable and connected to you as any sim owner on the internet. In the meantime please don`t be offended if we request that you post your suggestion or bug, or question in the forums rather than answering it in skype. We simply want to ensure that we do not lose or forget it.

3. SimSportsWorld will need to adapt.

While Football will be a similar endeavor to basketball, obviously there are things that work for football that do not for basketball and vice versa. Whats unique to SimSportsWorld.com will still be intact, but there will be some significant differences that are paramount to our success. One of the most common questions I get is whether or not users will get 3 more free characters for football. Reality is we can`t offer 3 free characters for every sport as we intend to have a dozen sports or more, but what we can do will kind of jive with what we need to do with football.

Unlike in Basketball where all positions were created equal, football definitely will have a much higher demand for certain obvious positions. As a result we will not be able to offer characters at the same prices. For the first time SimSportsWorld.com will have tiered prices based on position. Quarterbacks, Running backs, and receivers will likely be the highest priced characters, meanwhile less wanted players like corner backs, safeties, and linemen will be very cheap or free. Some will like it, some will hate it, but it is necessary in order to create a balanced league.

Also there will be a change with linemen. Linemen will not be individual characters but rather a unit, that will count as one character. Attributes will be distinct for each position in the line and for training youll be able to train across your line or focus on specific positions on the line. While this is going to be completely foreign to everyone, I am confident that once everyone sees it in action, they will find it an entertaining experience, and being an offensive line will actually be a fun character rather than a despised one. When you are responsible for an entire offensive line and your quarterback doesn`t get sacked once, it will have some merit to it.

These are a few of the changes that are coming to us. Change is good, and I know not everyone embraces change, but if we can better ourselves through this process it will open doors for more sports, more animation and more… SimSportsWorld.com
